Maryland LCV Statement on Maryland’s Climate Pathway Report

Annapolis, MD – Today, the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) released its Maryland’s Climate Pathway report authored by the University of Maryland Center for Global Sustainability (CGS), outlining how Maryland can meet its emissions-reduction targets. In response, Maryland LCV issued the following statement from Director of Climate Policy and Justice, Rebecca Rehr:

We applaud MDE for meeting this important deadline in the state’s process for achieving its ambitious greenhouse gas emissions-reduction goals. The administration is also demonstrating its commitment to partner with state universities to help develop more informed policies and strategies to address climate mitigation, exemplified here with the University of Maryland’s Center for Global Sustainability. We will be working closely with MDE and key stakeholders on the next steps in developing policies to meet our goals.

In the second half of the year, as MDE works towards its final plan, we look forward to seeing more engagement with communities to incorporate the key tenets of environmental justice — namely, fair treatment and meaningful involvement – into the state’s emissions-reductions efforts. Maryland LCV is committed to working closely with state agencies and key stakeholders to ensure that commitments to equity and 100% clean energy are integral, comprehensive, and well-defined elements of Maryland’s emissions-reduction strategies.
