Maryland League of Conservation Voters Endorses Senate President Bill Ferguson
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Endorsements include 15 environmental stalwarts in Senate and House, Plus Two Challengers
ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 26, 2026) — Today, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters (Maryland LCV) released its most recent wave of endorsements for the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates in the 2026 election cycle. This round comes on the heels of Maryland LCV’s first round of endorsements in January and second round in February. These endorsements occur at a time when Marylanders are seeing environmental issues virtually ignored at the federal level, necessitating greater leadership by state legislators to act for lower utility bills, clean water, and healthy air.
The list of endorsed candidates includes 17 candidates, 15 of whom are incumbents. Among the endorsees is Senate President Bill Ferguson , from District 46.
“President Ferguson has been a longtime ally of Maryland LCV since his election in 2010 and up to and including his time leading the Senate,” said Kim Coble, Maryland LCV’s Executive Director. said Kim Coble, Maryland LCV’s Executive Director. “He has a track record of environmental successes , and, under his leadership, the state has taken bold steps toward clean energy and protecting our communities. We value his proven commitment to making our state healthier for everyone and his know-how in shepherding legislation that prioritizes health and environmental justice across the finish line.”
“Championing environmental protections for Marylanders so we can thoughtfully respond to the climate crisis, which poses an existential risk, is one of the foundational reasons I ran for office,” said Senate President Bill Ferguson. “As a father of two middle school-age children, I know that every decision the General Assembly makes must be rooted in whether it will create a better planet and greater opportunity to thrive for future generations of Marylanders. I am proud to have earned Maryland LCV’s endorsement for re-election based on our work together from the Climate Solutions Now Act of 2022 to the RENEW Act and removing clean energy subsidies from trash incineration in the 2025 Legislative Session.”
Ferguson joins House Speaker Joseline Peña-Melnyk as a recipient of Maryland LCV’s endorsement for the 2026 election cycle.
In addition to the three sitting Senators and 12 delegates, Maryland LCV endorsed two challengers: Matt Johnston in District 30B and Chuck Cook in District 33B.
The endorsed incumbents have consistently demonstrated their commitment to environmental issues. Each has a high lifetime voting record on Maryland LCV’s Scorecard for lawmakers, as well as a strong record of leadership and partnership.
Since 1979, Maryland LCV has proudly campaigned to elect pro-conservation candidates. Before each state election, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters (Maryland LCV) board of directors and staff evaluate the voting records of incumbents as well as candidate responses to comprehensive questionnaires before making endorsement decisions.
