Maryland LCV Statement on Immigrant Communities
Maryland League of Conservation Voters (Maryland LCV) released the following statement:
“To our immigrant community members: We see you, we value you, and we will stand alongside you against any unjust policies. Through our work over the last decade with Chispa Maryland, we have witnessed your strength, resilience, and countless contributions to our state. You are essential members of our community who deserve to live without fear or intimidation. Maryland LCV remains committed to supporting the human rights, dignity, and wellbeing of all community members, regardless of immigration status,” stated Kim Coble, Executive Director of Maryland LCV.
“Maryland LCV through our Chispa Maryland program strongly condemns discriminatory actions that threaten to tear families apart and terrorize our immigrant communities,” said Ramon Palencia-Calvo, Deputy Executive Director of Maryland LCV and Director of Chispa Maryland. “We reject any actions that demonize immigrant communities and stand firmly with immigrant families. They are essential members of our communities who deserve to live without fear or intimidation as they work to help our state progress.”
For the past decade, Chispa Maryland has worked alongside Latino and immigrant communities who have become powerful advocates for clean air, clean water, and climate action, and we oppose any actions that threaten to silence their voices. Maryland has consistently shown that our environmental progress is strongest when we embrace our diversity and ensure all voices are heard in policy decisions.
Maryland LCV will continue supporting our partners across the state to protect immigrant communities’ human rights. We remain committed to building a society that reflects and serves all Marylanders.
