Annapolis MD – Gov. Wes Moore yesterday announced that Delegate Kumar Barve will be appointed to Maryland’s Public Service Commission. The appointment will occur after the 2023 legislative session. In response, Maryland LCV released the following statement from Maryland LCV Deputy Executive Director Ramón Palencia-Calvo:

Maryland LCV congratulates Chairman Barve on his appointment to the Public Service Commission, and thanks him for his many years of service in the House of Delegates. For more than three decades, Delegate Barve has championed key environmental issues that have protected Maryland’s air, land, water and communities. As Chairman of the House Environment and Transportation Committee, he has guided many successful environmental campaigns, from advancing clean energy to ensuring sustainable oyster fisheries and protecting critical habitats. In 2017, he received our Legislator of the Year award for his work passing legislation to permanently ban hydraulic fracturing in Maryland.

Chairman Barve has truly been a trailblazing legislator. Following his confirmation, we look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role.
