Maryland LCV Criticizes Trump Administration’s Attack on Offshore Wind
Federal Government’s Actions Threaten Maryland Jobs, Energy Independence, and Climate

ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 15, 2025) – On Friday, the Department of Justice filed to voluntarily revoke the Construction and Operations Plan for the previously approved Maryland Offshore Wind Project. This action, following on to a series of actions targeting offshore wind, is a direct attack on America’s clean energy future, and threatens thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in investments already made by American workers and businesses.

“Offshore wind holds the potential to power Maryland homes and businesses with lower emissions and lower fuel costs, at a time when electricity demand and costs are rising,” said Rebecca Rehr, Climate Policy and Justice Director for Maryland LCV. “It is a waste of time and taxpayer money to block projects that have already undergone years of rigorous review.”

The clean energy sector provides job growth, family supporting wages, more affordable energy, and a sustainable future at a time when each is desperately needed. Instead of supporting working families with the improved quality of life and livable environment they deserve, this decision represents a true leap backwards and paves the way for dirty, expensive, and outdated sources of energy.

“This action directly harms Maryland families through higher energy costs,” said Kim Coble, Executive Director of Maryland LCV. “Last winter’s energy price spikes showed us the cost of fossil fuel dependence. Offshore wind offers price stability and energy independence, but the Trump Administration would rather see Marylanders pay more to protect oil and gas profits.”

The impact extends far beyond energy costs:

  • Thousands of union jobs in shipyards, ports, and manufacturing facilities are at risk
  • Billions in private investment will evaporate, undermining America’s competitiveness
  • Maryland’s progress toward its climate goals will be severely hampered
  • Communities counting on the economic benefits of clean energy development face uncertainty
  • Harmful emissions from dirty sources of energy will hurt communities

Maryland League of Conservation Voters stands with the many companies and workers who comprise our clean energy industries, and the millions of Marylanders who believe in a clean energy future.
