Maryland LCV Statement on House Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act
Washington, D.C. – Today, in response to the U.S. House of Representatives passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from Deputy Executive Director Ramon Palencia-Calvo.
“Passing the Inflation Reduction Act is a monumental step to put the U.S. on track towards addressing the climate crisis. For Marylanders, the passage of this bill is particularly important because the Inflation Reduction Act will provide a much-needed boost to our efforts to implement our landmark statewide climate legislation, the Climate Solutions Now Act, that was passed in our recent legislative session. The Inflation Reduction Act will give us a substantial jumpstart towards our emissions reduction goals, making it realistically possible for executive, state, and local actions in Maryland to bridge the remainder.
“The bill is also a tremendous investment in addressing how climate change affects people who have for too long been ignored, with billions of dollars focused on disadvantaged communities, improving access to transit, putting more electric school buses on the road, and reconnecting neighborhoods devastated by failed highway projects like the ‘highway to nowhere’ in Baltimore.
“2022 is turning out to be a banner year for climate action in Maryland. In combination, the Inflation Reduction Act and the Climate Solutions Now Act will advance our efforts to provide clean energy and a more affordable, healthy, just, and equitable future for all Marylanders.
“We are enormously grateful to Senators Van Hollen and Cardin and the majority of the Maryland Congressional delegation for their steadfast efforts to pass this monumental climate legislation.”
