Maryland LCV Statement on Latest EPA Rollback
On Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it is repealing pollution standards for coal and gas power plants. These standards have been the result of decades of work that prioritized environmental and public health and allowed millions of people in Maryland and beyond to breathe healthier air and have access to clean water. The EPA is withdrawing from its responsibility to protect our environment and the health of Americans, so states including Maryland need to step up.
“Having already rescinded the Endangerment Finding, we are shocked but sadly not surprised by the latest action by this administration’s EPA,” said Kim Coble, Maryland LCV Executive Director. “Maryland has been a leader in working to achieve healthy air and clean water, and that role takes on additional importance given this latest decision. Our state’s leaders must step into the void created by the EPA and double down on our commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions and build a cleaner, more reliable energy system.”
