Maryland LCV Responds to Chesapeake Bay Executive Council Meeting

Annapolis, MD – Maryland League of Conservation Voters (Maryland LCV) congratulates Governor Moore for being reelected as chair of the Chesapeake Bay Executive Council and applauds the Council‘s recommitment to protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay, with emphasis on shallow water habitat, living resources, and renewed efforts to address nonpoint source pollution across the watershed.

The health of the Chesapeake Bay is fundamental to Maryland’s future – from our climate goals to our economy. Yet, recent EPA reports show Maryland and our partner states are falling behind on key environmental targets. The Bay supports billions in economic activity through commerce, tourism, seafood, and agriculture, while serving as a critical line of defense against climate change impacts for our coastal communities.

“Governor Moore’s announcement of the Bay Legacy Bill, which looks to boost regenerative agriculture, increase oyster aquaculture, and broaden state water quality monitoring efforts, demonstrates Maryland continuing to innovate and develop new approaches to support Bay restoration,” said Kim Coble, Executive Director of Maryland LCV. “Building on the success of the Whole Watershed Act, we recognize and affirm the  imperative to engage all communities in protecting the Bay.  We look forward to working with Governor Moore and the General Assembly to address ongoing challenges and to ensure that Maryland moves forward in Bay restoration efforts as we approach the 2025 legislative session.”

Maryland LCV will continue to advocate for strong, equitable policies that protect the Bay and support the communities that depend on it.
