In times like these, state leadership matters more than ever
A note from Kim Coble, our executive director
Like many of you, I am still processing the results of last Tuesday’s presidential election and what it means for our environment, our communities, and our future. I know many of you are worried, frustrated, and perhaps even fearful about what lies ahead. But today, I want to remind you why we can – and must – remain hopeful.
Here in Maryland, we’ve proven that state-level action drives real environmental progress. Just this year, we’ve achieved remarkable victories that will make a real difference in our communities:
- Passed the Brighter Tomorrow Act, making solar power more accessible and affordable across Maryland
- Secured $90 million in dedicated climate funding for building electrification and clean transportation
- Enacted the Whole Watershed Act, revolutionizing our approach to protecting Maryland’s waterways
- Removed manufacturer exemptions from our greenhouse gas reduction requirements, ensuring all sectors contribute to our climate goals
These achievements didn’t happen by accident. They happened because people like you stayed engaged, contacted your legislators, and demanded action. And they will continue to happen because Maryland will continue to be a leader on climate change and protecting our Chesapeake Bay.
Looking Ahead
As we face this new Administration, we must put renewed focus on state-level actions. The 2025 Maryland legislative session will be more important than ever as we continue pushing for clean water, healthy air, and climate-resilient communities.
States have been laboratories for environmental progress, and Maryland has consistently led the way. We were among the first states to create a regional agreement to clean up the Chesapeake Bay, pass environmental justice legislation and set ambitious climate goals. We will be sure this work will continue, regardless of who sits in the White House.
How You Can Help
Right now, the most powerful thing you can do is commit to staying engaged in state-level advocacy:
- Make a donation to support our Maryland based work. Your contribution ensures we can continue fighting for environmental progress in Maryland, where we know we can make a real difference.
- Join our movement. In the coming months, we’ll share specific actions you can take to support environmental legislation in Maryland. Your voice matters more than ever.
Remember: Progress doesn’t always move in a straight line, but it does move forward when dedicated people refuse to give up. At Maryland LCV, we’re doubling down on our commitment to make Maryland a national leader in environmental protection and climate action.
The path forward may feel uncertain, but our mission remains clear.
Together, we’ll continue building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Maryland – one victory at a time.
Thank you for standing with us,
Kim Coble
