Maryland League of Conservation Voters Announces First Round of Endorsements for General Assembly
Candidates Have Proven Conservation Records and Demonstrated Leadership
(Annapolis, MD) – Today the Maryland League of Conservation Voters (Maryland LCV) released its first round in a series of candidate endorsements for the Maryland General Assembly in the 2022 state primary elections. The organization said the 26 Senate and 47 House candidates (list attached) have all demonstrated pro-conservation records and leadership on environmental issues.
“The recent legislative session demonstrated how crucial it is to elect strong legislative candidates who will fight for just and equitable environmental policy,” said Lynn Heller, chair of the Maryland LCV board of directors. “The number of candidates working to set themselves apart as champions for both climate and justice has never been greater, and we can’t wait to work on behalf of these candidates and those whose endorsements are still to come.”
“Maryland LCV’s endorsements for incumbents are based on proven environmental leadership,” said Maryland LCV Executive Director Kim Coble. “Our goal is to ensure that Maryland voters have the information they need to elect strong conservation candidates.”
Coble acknowledged that the twice-postponed candidate filing deadline has delayed the organization’s endorsement decisions, but added, “The climate can’t wait for the court’s decisions. These extraordinary champions, as well as those who will be endorsed in the weeks to come, will shape the future of our state and Maryland LCV looks forward to working with them.”
Before each state election, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters (Maryland LCV) board of directors and staff evaluate comprehensive questionnaires and conduct thorough interviews with scores of candidates for office, including comptroller, attorney general, and governor as well as candidates for the Maryland House of Delegates and Senate. In the 2022 primary and General elections, Maryland LCV will once again campaign to elect pro-conservation candidates.
More endorsements will be released in the coming weeks and months. Please follow us on social media @MDLCV and the hashtag #MDLCVEndorsed for more up to date environmental endorsements.
