Background: Families in Maryland and across the country are struggling with increasing electricity costs. The best ways to reduce these costs continue to be through deployment of programs and tools that increase (1) energy efficiency and (2) clean energy deployment (including storage). This current Congress has dismantled successful efficiency programs (Energy Star) and rescinded funds from both energy efficiency programs and clean energy deployment. Despite many of the Federal programs originally passed under the Inflation Reduction Act that had been supporting states in developing and deploying clean energy solutions, Maryland has continued to move forward to work toward solutions. Many state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private businesses continue to offer support to Maryland communities with solar deployment, home weatherization, improving building efficiency standards, and more. Congressman Olszewski is one of more than 100 co-sponsors on legislation, the Energy Bills Relief Act, that would bring the federal government back to the table in supporting rapid deployment of clean energy, modernization of our electric grid, and protecting families struggling under the burden of high utility bills.
