In Their Words …
" Keeper of political scorecards on environmental votes, this small but feisty group actually endorses candidates who might be good for green causes. Its small staff proves that you don't need a huge budget to make a difference. Still, more money couldn't hurt. "

The Wrong Direction- Oppose HB 1125

In 2007 Marylanders, like YOU, fought hard to pass the Stormwater Management Act. This law addresses one of the root causes for our ailing bay, rainwater that washes over hard surfaces like parking lots, carrying pollution into the Chesapeake Bay.

Now, a bill has been introduced, HB 1125, that threatens to undo this vital progress.

Please contact your legislator and let them know that you oppose allowing developers to avoid paying their fair share and you oppose HB 1125.

Get Smart about Energy

smart_energy_nowHB 522: You wouldn't build a house without a blueprint, but right now Maryland is making decisions about how to construct its energy future without a blueprint. Maryland has committed to ambitious goals to achieve clean, affordable, and reliable energy that will create thousands of new jobs in Maryland but we need a statewide plan to ensure that we achieve those goals.

HB 522 requires the Public Service Commission (PSC) to oversee the creation of a state energy plan that is consistent with all state environmental laws and to review proposals with respect to that state plan.

Smarter Transportation Choices for Maryland

enviro_com._priorityEMAILSB51, SB624, HB760, HB282, and HB461: Our transportation system is fundamentally broken. Our policies are not in line with our values when we continue to build more roads that add to our greenhouse gases, keep us in our cars and affect our way of life. We need transportation dollars to be spent in ways that create jobs, improve public health and improve the environment. We need a better, safer, cleaner way to get where we need to go.

Watershed Protection and Restoration Act

Environmental Community PrioritySB686, HB999: When it rains, stormwater pollution runs from our parkingWye_River_Pier_WEB lots, rooftops, and other hard surfaces, washing out streambeds and choking all life in our waters. The backlog of green infrastructure repairs caused by stormwater runoff exceeds $20 billion statewide. This bill will require counties to implement a stormwater user charge on impervious surfaces. This will create a dedicated revenue stream and hundreds of jobs in Maryland repairing the damage done by runoff from existing properties.
