During the 2010 elections, the top priorities of the Maryland League of Conservation Voters PAC will be to grow the "Conservation Majority" in the General Assembly, to protect those Senators and Delegates who champion the environment, and to re-elect statewide leaders such as Governor O'Malley, Comptroller Franchot, and Attorney General Gansler.
We are lucky in Maryland to have a great number of elected leaders who we call friends and champions, but we also have a some elected officials, especially in the Senate, who can not be counted on to vote for strong environmental legislation --- even though many of them are from communities where protecting the environment is a strongly held value. We believe that these legislators are out of step with their district and its voters; we will work to replace them with leaders who will truly go to bat for restoring the Chesapeake Bay and our rivers, investing in a clean energy economy, and providing real transportation choices for all Marylanders.
It is imperative that during elections we support those Republican and Democratic legislators who stand with us on the front lines as we fight together for strong environmental legislation. We will run strategic grassroots campaigns to protect the most vulnerable pro-conservation candidates and we will financially support environmental champions across the state who are vulnerable.
