2006 Comptroller Endorsement: Peter Franchot

In Maryland, the position of Comptroller is about much more than collecting taxes. The Comptroller sits on the very powerful three-member board of Public Works, which makes decisions about land sales.

This fact has been at the forefront of our minds in recent years, given Governor Ehrlich and Comptroller Schaefer's consistent lack of support for Program Open Space.

Land conservation is critically important in Maryland, and Peter Franchot knows this instinctively. That's why the Maryland League of Conservation Voters is proud to announce our strong support for Peter Franchot for Comptroller.

Delegate Franchot has earned a lifetime score of 92% on the Maryland League of Conservation Voters' General Assembly scorecards.

As Chair of the Transportation and the Environment subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, Franchot fought to protect funding for land conservation and for the Office of Smart Growth.

A vote for Peter Franchot is a vote for the environment.
