In Their Words …
“Keeper of political scorecards on environmental votes, this small but feisty group actually endorses candidates who might be good for green causes. Its small staff proves that you don't need a huge budget to make a difference. Still, more money couldn't hurt”
Chesapeake Life Magazine
2006 Governor/Lieutenant Governor: Martin O'Malley and Anthony Brown

O'Malley EndorsementThe Maryland League of Conservation Voters is proud to endorse Mayor Martin O'Malley and Delegate Anthony Brown for the next Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland.

We know that Mayor O'Malley will be a true leader for the environment, based on his bold agenda for protecting the environment, his passion for saving the Chesapeake Bay, and his record of leadership Baltimore.

A vote for Martin O'Malley is a vote for the environment.

On our 2005-2006 Gubernatorial Report Card, the Ehrlich Administration earned a D for his environmental actions. Marylanders -- and our Chesapeake Bay -- cannot afford another four years of Governor Ehrlich.

For four years, environmentalists have had to watch Governor Ehrlich every step of the way. Too often he says one thing, but does another. The Ehrlich Administration has repeatedly pushed to weaken and stall environmental progress only to pull back at the eleventh hour after public outcry.

For four years we've had a Governor who says he's for land conservation, but who raided $400 million from land conservation programs. The Administration tried to sell off protected lands and has let developers have a free pass all across this state to develop in the wrong places, such as outside Blackwater Refuge.

Mayor O'Malley has pledged to fully fund land conservation programs and preserve more land than is eaten up by development. In Baltimore, the Mayor has announced a major park acquisition program. He's also pledged to re-establish the renowned Office of Smart Growth -- which Governor Ehrlich has dismantled.

For four years we've had a Governor who fought to the bitter end -- working directly with the energy industry lobbyists -- against better air pollution controls, who even shut his door on the Healthy Air Act. Governor Erhlich now takes credit for the very bill he tried to kill.

This Administration tried to write off some rivers and streams as too polluted to bother cleaning up, who has turned a blind eye to big Bay polluters time and again. Even Governor Ehrlich's "flush tax" now seems to be another gift to developers who are using taxpayer's money and creating more sprawl and congestion.

Marylanders -- and our Chesapeake Bay -- cannot afford another four years of Governor Ehrlich.

For the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, the choice was easy. With your help, we'll be contacting tens of thousands of conservation-minded voters across the state to make sure voters know who the real environmental Governor will be.

If you can volunteer to help us get out the conservation vote on Election Day, please call us at 410-280-9855 and press 4# or email info@mdlcv.org.
