Political News: Losing Some Conservation Heroes

April 20th, 2006 by Dawn Stoltzfus

So now that the Legislative Session has ended (read our wrapup here) the Maryland LCV takes a long-need vacation… or at least a nap, right?

Actually now we get to thinking about elections! Only so many weeks away…

Just today we learned that 2 of our conservation champions have decided not to run again for Senate.

District 18’s Senator Sharon Grosfeld (100% on our most recent scorecard) and District 23’s Senator Leo Green (93%) have both decided not to run for re-election this November.

Let’s make sure we replace these environmental advocates with more hundred percenters!

I am very disgusted and discouraged with our representatives at all levels. I miss Glendening. Duncan was not a true hero to the environment. You should see this disastrous Interconnector that he supports and which is literally forcing wildlife onto the busy roadways. it is so depressing. I have my hopes for O’Malley but I no longer trust our public officials because what they say and what they do are often out of sync. Surely the one NOT to vote for is ANTI environment bear-hunt loving Erlich. Also, this lame idea of Smart Growth is just that: LAME. EVERYTHING here in once beautiful Montgomery County is trashed and being developed, every last little parcel. Smart Growth was a propagandistic concept. It is RAMPANT growth, the highest bidder winning the game. I am just glad that I am not going to be around to witness this place in the next century. I shudder to think what it will be.
