In Their Words …
“They are very well-organized, and they are a well-thought-out group of individuals who are going to make sure their concerns are heard”

Who We Are

Known as the "Environmental Watchdog" in Annapolis, the non-partisan Maryland League of Conservation Voters (LCV) serves as the political voice of the environment in our state. The Maryland LCV was founded in 1979 as a volunteer organization and has since grown to a full-time, staffed organization. The Maryland LCV is a 501 (c)(4) organization and is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

What We Do

Maryland LCV advocates for sound conservation policies, promotes pro-environment candidates for public office, and holds elected officials accountable for the decisions they make affecting our air, water, lands, and quality of life.

Accountability

Maryland LCV produces the Legislative Scorecard every two years grading state legislators on their votes on key environmental issues. The Maryland LCV also grades the environmental record of the Governor. In addition, we regularly alert the public and the media of key actions of elected officials and closely monitor agencies and executive appointments.

Advocacy

The Maryland LCV plays a key role in supporting the advocacy efforts of the state's environmental community. We work to educate and mobilize the public to lobby for sound conservation policies and funding.

Political Action

Through the recruitment and training of candidates, endorsements, volunteers, and direct campaign activities, we actively promote pro-environment candidates for public office at the state level.

Local Outreach

All politics is local and the Maryland LCV has been involved in local outreach efforts and activities. We have been a mentor to local groups working to set up local political action committees (PACs) and publish scorecards of their elected officials. We have also mobilized and trained local activists to volunteer for electoral and advocacy campaigns.
